The feminist lens is one the I find to have great depth and interest to me. This is because it is one that can easily be identified and seem in many texts that always seems to uncover hidden motives and relations of characters throughout the novel. I have a large amount of experiment with this lens because it has shown up in many other books read in school such as Jane Eyre and The Scarlet Letter. The topics specifically covered by this lens that I have with the most experience is the idea that women are supposed to be the caretakers of the house and supposed to be submissive to men whereas men are supposed to be the money earners of the family, most knowledgeable and have total power over the lives of their partner or the women around them. My personal belief is that women should have total control over their lives and the decisions they make about it. I also believe that it is important to recognize that women are equal to men and that they both have their own power and that women are able to be strong independent women. Besides the feminist lens, the other lens that I was considering doing my project on was the Marxist lens because it is mainly about the social classes and statuses and that is something that is closely tied with the feminist lens, and it is also a lens that I can relate to very easily, and that has shown up in most of the books that I have read so far. Additionally, I am hoping to get one main thing out of this project. I am hoping to be able to thoroughly understand the feminist lens both forwards and backwards so that I can use that skill later in my life as i go off to college and need to apply these skills in my college English classes.
This is going to be an interesting lens to look through, especially for this book. Most of the characters living in the house are women without any male figure around so it will be interesting to see what their roles are in the household. I also remember The Scarlet Letter and Mr. Palmer, good times lol.
ReplyDeleteI also chose the feminist lens!! I would recommend that you look at the power difference between men and women because their is definitely that in this book. The interesting thing about the feminist lens is that you can study both genders and see how the power that they have effects how they interact.
ReplyDeleteI like how you are using the feminist lens to find hidden motives. Usually people use the feminism lens to portray gender roles or social structure. This is a unique idea! but why is the whole blog in bold?
ReplyDeleteIt seems that you are looking really in depth with this Lens. It like what Brian said, you chose an interesting and unique perspective to focus on. I also find it pretty cool how you also thought of how this can help you in the future with college
