I chose the Marxist lens over the other options as I think it will be an interesting lens to look at a book about slavery by. By looking at this book through the Marxist lens it will be interest to look at the differences in social class. I imagine we'll see how white property owners treat slaves the same as property. Back in this time period social classes were much more prominent than they are even in today's extremely capitalistic society. While I already have a pretty good idea about slavery through a historical lens I thought it would be best that I look at this book in a way I normally would not. Hopefully this will give me a better understanding of this very interesting perspective.
